The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has completed its planning for the upcoming two seasons of fall sports, releasing the brackets that will determine championship matchups across the state.
According to the board’s release, the WPIAL Class 5A, 3A, 2A and A football title games are slated for Nov. 28 at Acrisure Stadium, while the Class 6A and 4A championships will be held a week earlier on Nov. 20 or 21 at a yet‑to‑selected high school venue.
The schedule was designed to avoid clashing with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Nov. 27 game, ensuring that the professional matchup does not ripple into the high school championship timeline.
In addition to the football calendar, the board approved a series of cooperative sponsorship arrangements across several sports, while also voting to terminate a handful of existing partnerships.
Championship venues and upcoming rule changes
Spring championship events will continue to be hosted at Penn State and Shippensburg through 2030, providing a stable venue for sports ranging from track and field to baseball.
The association also opened the bidding process for its first‑ever girls flag football championship slated for 2027, accompanied by rule modifications that permit screen blocking and adjust the mercy rule threshold to 33 points.
Further equipment updates include a PIAA mandate that all baseball teams adopt a double first base starting next season, and changes to regional wrestling tournaments that see the WPIAL and District 5 meet in the Class 2A regional round.
