A Late Blow at BMO Stadium
Angel City Football Club entered the match against Racing Louisville FC looking to extend a three-game winning streak that had propelled them up the National Women's Soccer League table. Instead, a late surge from the visitors turned the contest on its head, with Maja Lardner striking twice to secure a 2-1 win for Louisville.
The game unfolded as a battle of chances, with Angel City out‑shooting Louisville 25 to 9 but only finding the net once. Sveindís Jónsdóttir’s 80th‑minute header pulled one back, but the comeback effort fell short. Goalkeeper Angelina Anderson was busy between the posts, making six saves, while Racing Louisville’s Jordyn Bloomer also contributed five stops.
Despite the loss, Angel City’s defensive metrics remained solid, conceding just one goal from two shots on target. The team’s attacking output, however, was hampered by a low conversion rate, managing only six shots on target from their 25 attempts. The narrow defeat underscores the fine margins that define the league’s mid‑season race.
Looking ahead, Angel City will travel to face the Kansas City Current and the Seattle Reign in their next two fixtures before returning home to meet the Washington Spirit on Aug. 16. The club will also host Racing Louisville again on Sept. 5 in Louisville, offering a chance for redemption in a rematch that could reshape the standings.
