Award Winners Recognized
The Big Ten unveiled its 2026 postseason awards on Tuesday, spotlighting five Maryland Terrapins baseball players who distinguished themselves across the conference. The honors reflect a season marked by record‑breaking performances and exemplary sportsmanship.
Brayden Martin led the Terrapins with a suite of accolades, earning a spot on the All‑Big Ten Third Team while shattering two program records. He finished the year with 76 hits, a .488 on‑base percentage and 21 stolen bases, ranking among the conference’s most consistent hitters. Martin also set a new career mark with 139 walks, underscoring his patience at the plate.
Freshmen made a strong impression, as Bud Coombs, Ty Kaunas and Ryan Costello were all named to the All‑Freshman Team. Coombs posted a .360 batting average with 31 hits, 18 extra‑base hits and nine home runs, while his 1.270 OPS and .779 slugging percentage placed him among the league’s most potent newcomers. Kaunas contributed 62 hits, 16 doubles and 46 walks, and Costello led all Big Ten freshmen with 15 home runs and drove in 59 runs, the third‑most in the conference.
Sportsmanship Honored
Aden Hill was recognized with the conference’s Sportsmanship Award, a testament to his conduct both on and off the field. Hill appeared in 40 games, delivering three home runs and four doubles while maintaining a disciplined approach that complemented his teammates’ efforts.
The awards not only celebrate individual achievement but also signal a promising future for Maryland’s program. With key contributors returning and a culture of excellence taking root, the Terrapins are poised to remain competitive in the Big Ten and beyond.
