A career defined by service
Mike Kazlausky announced his retirement from coaching and his promotion to Director of Leadership and Institutional Strategy at the United States Air Force Academy, bringing to a close a 36‑year journey that began as a student‑athlete and evolved through roles as assistant coach and head coach.
During his tenure he oversaw 365 victories across 16 seasons, guiding the Falcons to eight Mountain West Championship appearances and securing the 2022 Mountain West Tournament title, which delivered the program’s first NCAA Regional berth in 53 years. The following year the team captured the 2024 regular‑season championship, earning Kazlausky the Mountain West Coach of the Year honor.
Beyond the diamond
Kazlausky’s impact extended far beyond wins and losses. He emphasized the development of leaders both on and off the field, overseeing 127 Mountain West Academic All‑Conference selections and mentoring nine All‑Americans. His teams set program records and ranked among the top ten in fourteen career and single‑season statistical categories.
Prior to his coaching career he served as a C‑17 pilot, flying missions in support of the Global War on Terror. That military experience informed his leadership philosophy, blending discipline with a commitment to personal growth.
A new chapter of service
In his new role within Air Force Athletics, Kazlausky will focus on leadership development and institutional strategy, continuing to shape the Academy’s culture. He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Academy, noting that the next chapter will influence not only his own future but also that of his family.
