From Court to Sideline
Delvon Roe, a Lakewood, Ohio native who once dazzled as a Michigan State Spartan, has been named the new head basketball coach at South Pasadena High School, bringing a blend of championship pedigree and artistic flair to the program.
Roe’s collegiate career, spanning 2008 to 2011, was marked by two Final Four appearances and a reputation for relentless hustle. The stint ended abruptly when a knee injury forced him off the court, a setback that redirected his ambitions toward the arts.
Embracing the stage, Roe earned a degree in acting from Michigan State and spent the next decade appearing in a variety of film projects and television series, honing a creative voice that would later inform his coaching philosophy.
His coaching journey began in earnest with head positions at Northridge Academy High School and St. Genevieve High School in California, where he cultivated talent and emphasized disciplined play. Those experiences prepared him for the next step, a move that culminated in his recent appointment at South Pasadena.
Athletic directors at South Pasadena cite Roe’s unique perspective — combining the rigor of a Spartan champion with the storytelling instincts of a performer — as a catalyst for revitalizing the Tigers’ program. They anticipate a season where strategy meets showmanship, and where young players are encouraged to express themselves both on and off the court.
