West Texas A&M’s men’s basketball program has once again been honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025‑26 season, marking the second straight year the team has received the distinction.
The Buffaloes posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.065 across the roster, comfortably surpassing the 3.0 threshold that the award requires.
Four student‑athletes — seniors James Shiers, Brock Mishak and Nicholas Jett, along with junior Kemper Jones — earned placement on the NABC Honors Court, a recognition reserved for juniors, seniors and graduate students who maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA.
Executive Director Highlights Academic Commitment
NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson emphasized that sustained academic performance is a cornerstone of the organization’s vision for college basketball, noting that the award underscores the Buffaloes’ balanced approach to athletics and scholarship.
Robinson also pointed out that Mishak and Jett have now been named to the Honors Court for two consecutive seasons, reflecting their consistent scholarly achievement on and off the court.
The accomplishment adds to the program’s growing reputation, aligning athletic competitiveness with institutional academic standards and setting a benchmark for other mid‑major programs.
