Opening Day Brings Community Together
The 2026 Virginia Junior League Baseball Tournament opened on July 9 at Town Centre Park in Kilmarnock, drawing thousands of players, family members and fans to the small town. Thirteen teams from across the Commonwealth arrived to compete in a week‑long series of games that will run through July 15.
The opening ceremony featured the national anthem performed by the Mullins Sisters, followed by remarks from Lancaster High School baseball coach Welby Saunders and Virginia state delegate Hillary Pugh Kent. Fin Burke, a Lancaster Junior League player, recited the player pledge, while the delegate also delivered a parent pledge, underscoring the event’s community focus.
A Week of Competition
From July 10 to July 15, the teams will battle in a round‑robin format, with championship games scheduled for the final day. Spectators can expect a mix of fierce competition and celebratory activities, including youth clinics and family entertainment, as the tournament highlights the region’s passion for the sport.
