A New Chapter for Morton Baseball
Morton's baseball program has named Ben Studebaker as its new head coach, effective July 14, after the school board approved his appointment. Studebaker succeeds Ryan Lindley, who stepped down in June after a tenure that left big shoes to fill.
Studebaker arrives after twelve years as a varsity assistant at Eureka High School, where he helped the Hornets capture seven regional championships and a third‑place finish in the 2025 Class 2A tournament. Prior to that, he spent a decade leading the baseball team at Peoria Christian School, building a program that consistently competed at a high level.
Scott Jones, Morton's athletics director, praised Studebaker's vision and commitment, stating that the new coach embodies the values the school district has long championed. Jones expects Studebaker to preserve the proud tradition of Morton baseball while steering the team toward fresh successes.
The Potters finished third in the Mid‑Illini Conference during the 2026 campaign and had won five straight games before a run‑ruled defeat by Dunlap in the Class 3A regional championship. Those recent results have set a positive tone as the team transitions to a new leadership model.
Studebaker himself expressed gratitude for his time at Eureka and excitement about leading the Morton Potters. He highlighted the community's passion for the sport and outlined his intent to build on the foundation laid by previous coaches.
With the hiring now official, the focus shifts to preseason preparations, player development, and non‑conference scheduling. The coaching staff will soon finalize game plans and begin conditioning work ahead of the upcoming season.
