Alumni Basketball Game Returns to Baldwin This July
The Baldwin community is preparing for its annual alumni basketball showdown, set for Saturday, July 18 at the town gymnasium. The game is part of the broader Troutarama weekend celebrations and marks a highlight of the summer sports calendar.
Doors will open at 5 p.m., giving fans a chance to arrive early before tipoff at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but organizers are encouraging spectators to make donations that will directly benefit the Baldwin basketball program.
This year's contest will feature brothers Brandon Childress and Braeden Childress, both former national‑championship football players at Ferris State University who now serve as coaches at Baldwin. Brandon leads the boys basketball team, while Braeden coaches the varsity football squad.
Brandon Childress recently guided the Panthers to a West Michigan D League title and a Division 4 district championship, earning Pioneer Dream Team Coach of the Year honors. Braeden was a key member of the Ferris State football team that captured a national championship.
The event underscores the deep connection between alumni athletes and the local community, offering a chance to celebrate past achievements while raising funds for future programs.
