The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) has revealed its All‑American Scholars Team for Division II and III hockey, a roster that celebrates academic achievement as much as athletic prowess.
Scholarship and Sport Converge at Adrian College
To earn a spot on the scholars team, skaters must carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 and must have participated in at least 40 percent of their team’s games, with special accommodations provided for those who missed time due to injury or who serve primarily as backup goalies.
Among the honorees from Adrian College, Riley Johnson and Paige Pomerleau of the women’s squad were selected to the first team, underscoring the program’s blend of classroom dedication and on‑ice contribution.
The men’s side also saw four Bulldogs earn first‑team recognition, highlighted by Ian Amsbaugh and David Clarke, who join a distinguished list of scholars that includes Nathaniel Bannister, Jack Bernard, Will Bowman, Ben Loreto, Ryder Nienhuis, Jack O’Hanisain, Devyn Orpana, Ayden Peters, Ryan Piros, Patrick Saini, Anton Sorensen, Jacob Suede, Frank Tafelski, Theo Thrun and Ryan Vellucci.
The acknowledgment extends beyond individual accolades, reflecting a broader culture at Adrian College that prizes scholarly rigor alongside competitive hockey, a balance that coaches say prepares student‑athletes for life beyond the rink.
