A Milestone Partnership
The Tampa Bay Lightning and their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, announced a four‑year extension that will keep the developmental link alive through the 2029‑30 season. The agreement ensures that the Lightning’s top prospects continue to hone their craft in Syracuse, benefiting from the Crunch’s proven track record of player development and competitive play.
Since the affiliation began in 2012, 104 players have suited up for both the Crunch and the NHL club, contributing to a pipeline that has produced regular NHL contributors. The Crunch’s eight Calder Cup Playoff series victories, highlighted by Finals appearances in 2013 and 2017, underscore the franchise’s stability and success under the Lightning’s guidance.
Howard Dolgon, owner of the Crunch, expressed enthusiasm about the continuation of the partnership, noting that the collaboration has fostered a strong culture and a winning mindset within the organization.
Julien BriseBois, Lightning Vice President and General Manager, praised the Crunch for their role in shaping the next generation of talent, emphasizing that the extended affiliation aligns with the team’s long‑term vision for sustained excellence.
The partnership also marks a historic streak: eight straight seasons in which both the Lightning and the Crunch have qualified for the playoffs, the longest active run of its kind in the AHL. This consistency reflects the mutual commitment to competitiveness and player growth.
Looking ahead, the Crunch will begin its 33rd season of operation in 2026‑27, preparing to mark the milestone with another deep playoff run. The team has previously served as a primary affiliate for the Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks before settling into its current role with the Lightning.
The extended agreement not only secures a developmental home for prospects but also reinforces the synergy between the two franchises, promising continued excitement for fans in upstate New York and beyond.
