The University of Tennessee men's basketball program has cemented its reputation as a model of sustained excellence, capturing the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Excellence Award for the fifth straight year. The honor, bestowed by the NABC, marks the only Southeastern Conference program to achieve the distinction for five consecutive seasons, underscoring the Volunteers' consistent performance on the court.
Beyond the scoreboard, the team has set a new benchmark for scholarly achievement. This season the Volunteers posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.71, eclipsing the previous program record of 3.54 and reflecting a culture that values both athletics and academics. The squad posted its highest fall GPA of 3.74 and a spring GPA of 3.67, illustrating a commitment to classroom success that mirrors its competitive drive.
A Dual Triumph
The academic accolades extended to the players as well. Seven Volunteers earned placement on the NABC Honors Court, with senior standouts Grant Hurst and Felix Okpara joining the list for multiple years. Freshmen Amaree Abram, Jaylen Carey, J.P. Estrella, Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Cade Phillips received their first Honors Court recognition, while newcomer Miles Rubin, who transferred from Loyola Chicago, was also celebrated for his academic performance during the 2025‑26 term. All 16 Volunteers were named to either the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll or the SEC First‑Year Honor Roll, marking the second consecutive year that the entire roster has been recognized on the conference's academic honor rolls.
