A Celebration of Scholarship
The Michigan Tech men's basketball program has once again been recognized for its commitment to academic achievement, capturing the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025‑26 season.
It is the fifth time in the past six seasons that the Huskies have earned this distinction, underscoring a sustained pattern of excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
The award is presented to programs that complete the academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, a standard that the Huskies have consistently met.
In addition, nine Michigan Tech student‑athletes were named to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing players who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and are classified as juniors, seniors, or graduate students. The honorees include Drew Barrie, Ethan Heck, Gabe Smith, Josh Terrian, Luke Hazelton, Marcus Tomashek, Matt Schmainda, Nate Abel and Peyton LaCombe.
NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson emphasized the importance of celebrating academic achievements in college basketball, noting that the association also honored more than 2,300 players across the nation and over 400 programs with the Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025‑26 season.
Michigan Tech’s leadership attributes the success to a culture that values responsibility and lifelong learning, a philosophy championed by coaches and administrators alike.
