A New Era for Mascoma Sports
Mascoma Valley Regional School District has announced the hiring of two experienced coaches to lead its girls soccer and football programs for the upcoming season. The moves signal a renewed focus on competitive performance and holistic player growth within the school's athletic departments.
Shannon Gould, a coach with more than three decades of experience, will take the helm of the girls soccer team. Previously at Oxbow High, Gould guided that program to its first state title in 2010 and later helped the squad secure a playoff victory in 2023, ending a drought that dated back to 2018.
Gould's philosophy centers on raising the team's performance level and fostering an intense, competitive environment. She believes that sustained improvement will position the Raiders to challenge for top honors in the coming years.
Josh Kershaw, a Mascoma alumnus who once assisted his father Ray Kershaw in the early 2010s, returns to his alma mater as the new football head coach. Kershaw emphasizes player development and creating positive experiences both on and off the field, aiming to build a culture of growth and resilience.
The football program recently captured a Division IV state title in 2024, underscoring the school's upward trajectory. Building on that momentum, Kershaw hopes to blend tradition with fresh ideas, leveraging his deep roots in the community to sustain success.
