A Renewed Rivalry in Philadelphia
Villanova and Wisconsin will meet on December 12, 2026 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia for the Philly Hoops Showdown, marking the second consecutive year the two programs have faced off on a neutral site.
Tickets go on sale October 15, with a presale reserved for Villanova season‑ticket holders, while the event is organized by Chicago‑based sports marketing agency Intersport.
History and Tournament pedigree
Wisconsin enters the matchup with a storied NCAA Tournament résumé, having appeared in 25 of the last 27 tournaments and finishing the 2025‑26 season ranked No. 25 in the AP poll after a 24‑win campaign. Villanova, also a 24‑win team last season, returns starters Tyler Perkins and Matt Hodge and adds newcomers Kwame Brown, Devin Royal, Elijah Crawford, Darryl Simmons and Jake Fiegen to its roster.
The Badgers will be led by Greg Gard in his 12th year as head coach, while Villanova’s Kevin Willard continues to build on his program’s recent success. Both teams boast a mix of returning contributors and transfers, including Wisconsin’s Nolan Winter and Austin Rapp alongside newcomers Trey Autry and Eian Elmer.
The upcoming clash adds another chapter to a series that began with a 1995 victory for Villanova, a 2025 win for the Wildcats, and a 2017 NCAA Tournament triumph for Wisconsin. Fans can follow the action on Intersport Basketball’s Twitter and Instagram for updates and behind‑the‑scenes coverage.
