A Legacy of Recognition
Texas Tech’s Ring of Honor stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to celebrating excellence on the field, court, and in the community.
Initiated for football in 2012 and later extended to men’s and women’s basketball in 2019, the honor recognizes elite players and coaches who have left an indelible mark on Red Raider and Lady Raider programs.
The selection process is overseen by an executive committee that works in concert with sport‑specific officers, ensuring that each candidate is evaluated against a consistent set of standards.
Prospective inductees are judged on a blend of collegiate achievements, professional accomplishments, enduring loyalty to Texas Tech, and a demonstrated commitment to the values the Ring of Honor embodies.
When a candidate is approved, their name and jersey number are prominently displayed at the respective venues, a permanent reminder of their contributions, though the numbers themselves are not retired.
A unanimous vote from the committee members is required before an individual can be inducted, underscoring the rigor of the evaluation.
Each sport’s committee reflects deep expertise: the football panel includes three seasoned historians of Texas Tech football and four former Red Raider players, while the men’s basketball panel brings together three knowledgeable insiders and three former players, and the women’s basketball panel features at least two veterans of Lady Raider history alongside three alumni.
These committees convene annually to review emerging talent, keeping the honor dynamic and responsive to the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics.
