The annual Match of the Year charity hockey game will take place this year in St. Petersburg, Russia, bringing together some of the most recognizable names from the NHL and the KHL.
Organized by Artemi Panarin and defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, the event pits two draft‑selected squads against each other, with the two stars serving as captains of their respective teams.
Among the Rangers representatives, goaltender Igor Shesterkin and defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov have been slated for Panarin’s side, while forward Pavel Buchnevich will wear the colors of Sergachev’s team.
The charitable component supports Panarin’s Arena Play sports‑center network and Sergachev’s Sector 98 foundation, channeling proceeds to community programs in both Russia and North America.
The evening will also feature musical performances and a lively atmosphere reminiscent of the NHL All‑Star Game, promising fans a festive experience beyond the ice.
Draft‑Style Competition Adds a Fresh Twist
For the first time the charity match will employ a draft mechanism, allowing the captains to select players from a pool that includes stars such as Alex Ovechkin, Kirill Kaprizov, Sergei Bobrovsky, Valeri Nichushkin and others.
Coaching staff will be led by Hall of Famer Igor Larionov, adding a legendary touch to the event.
