The Savannah State baseball program is undergoing a significant reshuffle as seven of its recent contributors have entered the NCAA transfer portal, signaling both individual ambition and a broader strategic shift for the team. Each athlete brings a distinct set of achievements that have drawn attention from programs across the country.
Standout Performances
Austin McCormack led the conference in innings pitched with 90 and recorded four complete games, posting a 4.20 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Gregorio Gonzalez topped the staff in strikeouts with 73 while maintaining a 4.45 ERA. Salvatore Urso posted the lowest team ERA at 3.95, striking out 28 batters over 57 innings. Outfielder Kijani Clarington batted .291, collecting 34 hits, scoring 36 runs, and driving in 23 RBIs. Infielders Gabe Breckenridge and Noah Rodriguez contributed 19 hits in 55 at‑bats and nine hits respectively, the latter adding four home runs and nine RBIs. Catcher/outfielder Bryce Bause batted .273, notching 15 hits that included four doubles and a triple, and contributed six RBIs.
Commitments and Destinations
McCormack has committed to Bellarmine University, while Gonzalez will continue his career at North Alabama. Urso’s next stop is Shelton State Community College, and Clarington has chosen Coppin State. Breckenridge is expected to transfer to Norfolk State, whereas Rodriguez has verbally agreed to join Fullerton College. Bause rounds out the group with a commitment to Savannah State’s in‑state rival, Savannah State University.
