Leadership Beyond the Diamond
Coach Chris Fynaardt repeatedly pointed to the group of four — Ben Van Wyngarden, Garrett Wieland, Logan Gallaher and Toby Belzer — as the embodiment of character and leadership that helped the team navigate a season riddled with challenges.
According to Fynaardt, those seniors were instrumental in shaping a culture of accountability and optimism, a culture he hopes will survive long after they have moved on.
Younger teammates, who once looked up to the veterans as mentors, formed friendships that blended on-field camaraderie with off-field guidance, a dynamic that the coach says will influence the program’s direction.
Fynaardt expressed confidence that the underclassmen will emulate the seniors’ attitudes, carrying forward the excitement and standards set during a season that, while difficult, proved formative for the squad.
