A Strategic Addition for the Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced the signing of forward Nick Abruzzese to a one‑year, two‑way contract, a move that bolsters the club’s depth and adds a proven scorer to the roster. At 27, Abruzzese brings a blend of experience and upside that aligns with the team’s competitive goals for the coming season.
Abruzzese spent the previous campaign with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, appearing in 56 games and posting 15 goals and 51 points. His performance placed him fifth on the team in both goals and points and third in assists, underscoring his offensive contributions.
The forward’s AHL pedigree extends to 267 career games with the Crunch and the Toronto Marlies, where he has accumulated 62 goals and 194 points. He also logged four playoff appearances with the Crunch, adding a goal and four points, and has compiled 16 playoff games across three seasons with three goals and 12 points.
Abruzzese’s NHL journey began on April 2, 2022, when he made his debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Philadelphia Flyers. He recorded his first NHL goal a month later against the Boston Bruins, and in total has appeared in 11 NHL contests, contributing a goal and two assists.
Internationally, Abruzzese represented Team USA at the 2022 Olympic Games, scoring a goal and adding four points across four games. His participation highlighted his ability to perform on a world stage and brought additional attention to his skill set.
Drafted in the fourth round, 124th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft, Abruzzese has steadily progressed from college hockey to the AHL and now the NHL. His consistent development has been overseen by General Manager Julien BriseBois, who emphasized the forward’s work ethic and versatility in a recent statement.
