Devyn Groves Returns from Italian Field Hockey Tour with New Perspectives

The Wittenberg graduate, who played for a USA team in Italy, plans to pursue a master's at Louisville while reflecting on her growth.

Devyn Groves, a recent graduate of Wittenberg University, earned a degree in sport management with a minor in religion, marking the culmination of a collegiate career that blended athletic ambition with academic curiosity.

A Summer Abroad

Through the American International Sports Tours Inc. (AIST), Groves joined a USA traveling team that competed in a series of elite field hockey matches throughout Italy, offering her a rare chance to face international talent on foreign soil.

The tour traced a path from the bustling capital of Rome, through the artistic streets of Florence, to the picturesque Ligurian towns of La Spezia, Monterosso, and Vernazza, then onward to the historic walls of Lucca, the Alpine charm of Bra, the lakeside vistas of Como, and finally the iconic canals of Venice, each location leaving a distinct imprint on her personal growth.

During her junior year, Groves earned first‑team All‑North Coast Athletic Conference honors and logged 63 appearances for Wittenberg’s varsity side, scoring 21 goals — a testament to her consistency and impact on the field.

Having secured admission to the sport administration master’s program at the University of Louisville, she plans to deepen her expertise in organizational leadership while preparing to return to coaching with a broader, more nuanced perspective.

Groves reflects that the rigors of international competition have reshaped her approach to teamwork and resilience, and she is eager to weave those insights into the development of future athletes under her guidance.
