Notre Dame has landed a major boost for its 2028 recruiting class with the verbal commitment of five-star edge rusher Darieon Prescott, a prospect who chose the Fighting Irish over powerhouse programs Texas A&M and Oregon.

Prescott arrives as the No. 7 overall recruit and the third-best edge defender in the 247Sports rankings for the 2028 cycle, and he is also positioned No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports composite.
Building a defensive front
His senior season at an Illinois high school saw him tally 65 tackles and five sacks, numbers that helped him stand out among a deep defensive line pool.
The commitment brings Notre Dame’s defensive line to six four-star or better signees, joining Abraham Sesay, David Folorunsho and linebacker Roman Igwebuike, all of whom are expected to bolster the unit’s depth.
