Summer Workouts Shape the Huskers' Outlook
Nebraska's men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has turned his attention this summer toward forging chemistry among a roster that returns only a handful of veterans after a Sweet 16 run. With five workouts left before fall practice begins, the team is using the time to gel both on and off the court.
The squad features a wave of newcomers, including transfers and fresh talent, who are adjusting to a more free‑flowing offensive system. Coach Hoiberg has asked players to expand their roles, and several have responded with noticeable shifts in focus.
Braden Frager, who once was known primarily for his scoring, is now emphasizing defense and all‑around play, while Cale Jacobsen and Boden Kapke have emerged as vocal leaders in the locker room. Pryce Sandfort has taken meaningful steps toward leadership, and Trevan Leonhardt, after transferring from Utah Valley, has embraced the new style, earning praise for his passing and defensive instincts.
The coaching staff views the developing chemistry as the team's biggest asset. As the players continue to build trust and define leadership responsibilities, the hope is that the cohesion cultivated during these summer sessions will translate into a strong performance when the regular season arrives.
