The Northern Super League, which launched its inaugural season in 2025 with clubs in Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, is set to broaden its footprint with the addition of a seventh franchise in Winnipeg slated for the 2027 campaign.
Desiree Scott, a former National Women’s Soccer League midfielder and Olympic gold‑medalist with the Canadian national team, will join the new club as a co‑founder and will assume the position of Vice President, Community & Player Experience.
Rob Gale, who previously served as head coach of the NWSL’s Portland Thorns, is also a co‑founder and will take on the role of Chief Sporting Officer, overseeing the team’s competitive strategy and player development.
Branding and venue plans still in the works
While the club’s crest, home venue and full coaching roster remain under development, league officials have promised a formal unveiling in the coming months, signaling a concrete step toward a permanent presence in the Prairie province.
The expansion reflects the league’s ambition to create a sustainable, Canada‑wide competition that elevates elite women’s soccer, while also delivering community‑focused programming led by figures like Scott who are committed to grassroots growth.
