Madeline Buckley Takes the Helm of Vassar Women's Soccer
Vassar College has named Madeline Buckley as its new head coach for the women's soccer program, tapping a leader whose career blends competitive success with a deep commitment to student‑athlete development. Buckley’s appointment comes as the program looks to build on the foundation laid by the previous staff and to compete more vigorously in the highly contested Liberty League.
During her four‑year tenure at Macalester College, Buckley transformed the Scots into a consistent contender, guiding the team to three MIAC Tournament appearances, including back‑to‑back trips in 2022 and 2023. She also expanded the roster to 35 student‑athletes and helped the program achieve its most successful stretch in recent memory.
Buckley’s playing pedigree is equally impressive. At William Smith, she earned Liberty League Player of the Year in 2014, was named Scholar‑Athlete of the Year in 2015, and captained the Herons to a Division III national championship in 2013. Her accolades also include being a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year award and earning NSCAA All‑American honors.
Beyond the pitch, Buckley has contributed as an assistant coach at Bowdoin and Tufts, both institutions within the NESCAC, where she refined her tactical acumen and recruitment skills. She holds a USSF National ‘D’ coaching license and earned her degrees from William Smith and Wheelock College, preparing her with both academic and practical expertise.
