On a bright Saturday in Boulder, the University of Colorado women's basketball team swapped sneakers for aprons, joining forces with All Roads Shelter to prepare and serve a communal meal.
Service on the Court, Service at the Table
Under the guidance of Lindsey Sharp, the shelter’s Assistant Director of Development and founder of the guest‑chef series, the players cooked meatballs and pasta before serving them to roughly 150 guests who call the shelter home each night.
The initiative, part of the shelter’s Chefs at the Shelter outreach program, aims to lift the spirits of both guests and staff, fostering a sense of community that extends beyond the kitchen.
Eighteen members of the roster, including Kennedy Sanders and Mecailin Marshall, took part in the effort, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
Beyond the immediate impact on morale, the shelter continues to provide food, shelter, and support services to over 1,600 adults annually, serving 150,000 meals each year.
The experience underscores how athletic teams can leverage their platform to address broader social needs, reinforcing the idea that every individual deserves dignity and support.
