A Strategic Addition for the Mean Green
Mia Gallo has recently been named director of basketball operations for the University of North Texas women's basketball program, a move that brings a decade of Division I coaching and playing experience to the Mean Green staff.
Gallo’s career has been marked by success at several institutions. While serving as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations at UC Davis, she helped the team compile a 44‑23 record and secure a 70 % win rate in conference play, including a 21‑win season in her first year and an improvement to 23 wins the following year.
At Rice University, Gallo initially worked as video coordinator before stepping into a role that led the Owls to an American Conference Championship. She also coached center Megan Norris, who rose to a top‑10 national ranking in rebounds and double‑doubles during the 2025‑26 campaign.
Prior to her recent appointments, Gallo held graduate assistant positions at Boise State University and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she further honed her strategic and developmental skills. Her playing days at California State University, Fullerton, saw her appear in 52 games and earn multiple degrees in kinesiology and sport management.
Head coach Jason Burton praised Gallo’s work ethic and her capacity to add immediate value, stating that her blend of analytical insight and on‑court expertise will strengthen the program’s competitiveness.
