On a bright Saturday morning at the Ensley Athletic Center, a group of athletes with disabilities stepped onto the field alongside members of the Syracuse University football team.
The clinic, organized in partnership with the Beautiful Lives Project, paired the Orange players with participants who worked through a series of drills designed to highlight teamwork and inclusion.
A Shared Vision of Inclusion
Executive Director Tony Gionfriddo of the Beautiful Lives Project highlighted how the event embodied the organization’s mission to create opportunities for people with disabilities across sports, arts and community activities, noting that the nonprofit has delivered more than 10,000 such experiences since 2017.
Head Coach Fran Brown expressed deep appreciation for the participants, emphasizing that the clinic offered a rare chance to see the game through a different lens and to foster genuine connections.
Syracuse senior center Joseph Cruz described the experience as a personal responsibility to give back, saying the interaction reminded him of the broader impact athletes can have beyond the stadium.
The collaboration between Syracuse Football and the Beautiful Lives Project is slated to become an annual tradition, a prospect that both the university and the nonprofit view as a cornerstone of ongoing community engagement.
