Coach Mario Cristobal, who took over the program in 2022, and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson bring a combined track record of explosive units that have consistently ranked among the nation’s best.
In 2024 the Hurricanes set a school record with an average of 43.9 points per game across 13 contests, a performance that placed them at the summit of scoring offenses.
Central to the comeback is sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah, who arrives from Duke where he threw for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns in just 14 games.
Surrounded by electrifying playmakers such as wide receiver Malachi Toney and a cadre of experienced receivers, Mensah will have the weapons to stretch defenses and generate big plays.
The offensive line, depleted by the departure of four starters to the NFL, remains a question mark, while the tight ends group leans heavily on Elija Lofton for production.
National Championship Outlook
Defensively, the unit has shown marked improvement since the 2024 campaign and is expected to complement the high‑scoring offense in pursuit of a national championship.
