A Familiar Face Returns to Lead the Program
The College of Saint Scholastica announced this week that Brenden Kotyk will take the reins of the Saints men’s ice hockey program as its new head coach, ushering in a new era for the team.
Kotyk, a Duluth native who skated for both Saint Scholastica and the University of Minnesota Duluth during his collegiate career, was a key member of the Bulldogs’ run to the 2017 national championship game, serving as assistant captain in his senior season.
After turning professional, he spent three seasons as a defenseman in the ECHL, gaining experience that would later inform his coaching philosophy and strategic approach on the ice.
His coaching journey began in earnest with the South Carolina Stingrays, where he steered the club to a winning record and captured a conference title, showcasing his ability to develop talent and manage a competitive roster.
Most recently, Kotyk spent two seasons at the helm of the Savannah Ghost Pirates, further refining his strategic approach before returning to the Upper Midwest to lead the Saints.
