A New Chapter for the Aggies
Texas A&M’s fall football camp is slated to open in August, marking the third year under head coach Mike Elko. The program has built momentum after a series of competitive performances, and Elko’s vision is already taking shape on the practice field.
Joining Elko are new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins and defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill, both of whom bring a blend of experience and fresh ideas. Wiggins, who previously worked closely with quarterback Marcel Reed, is expected to leverage that relationship to sharpen Reed’s game, while Hemphill’s defensive schemes aim to tighten a unit that has shown flashes of brilliance.
The coaching staff also benefits from the expertise of former quarterback Collin Klein and defensive strategist Jay Bateman, both of whom bring a deep understanding of the game that complements Wiggins and Hemphill’s approaches.
Marcel Reed, who threw for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns last season, is the centerpiece of the offense and a frequent name in early Heisman conversations. His chemistry with Wiggins could prove decisive, and the coaching staff believes the quarterback’s growth will be a catalyst for the entire squad.
At wide receiver, Mario Craver and Isaiah Horton are slated to lead the receiving game, giving Reed reliable targets. The battle for the third spot remains open, with Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey and TK Norman vying for the role, adding depth and competition to the position.
In the backfield, Jamarion Morrow is projected to start as the RB1 after posting 43 carries for 182 yards and a touchdown last year. He will be joined by Rueben Owens, Le'Veon Moss and E.J. Smith, who provide additional options as the team looks to diversify its rushing attack.
The Aggies will test their new-look roster against a challenging slate that includes a matchup with the Miami Hurricanes, a rivalry game against the Texas Longhorns, and a series of SEC opponents. The blend of experienced returnees and emerging talent sets the stage for a season that could redefine expectations in College Station.
