A New Chapter for Lady Vols Defense
Isoken Uzamere was officially added to the Lady Vols coaching staff this week, bringing a wealth of international experience to the program after stints as an assistant at Georgia and as head coach of the Nigerian National Team.
During her first press conference, Uzamere explained the core of her recruiting pitch, emphasizing Tennessee’s tradition, the supportive environment, and the opportunity to contribute to a defense‑first culture that aligns with her own philosophy.
She spoke admiringly of Coach Kim Caldwell’s intensity and strategic approach, noting that Caldwell’s defensive schemes were a major factor in her decision to join the university.
The transition to the Volunteer State has been both seamless and exhilarating, a feeling she described as overwhelming in a positive way as she settles into her new role.
Uzamere highlighted the importance of teamwork and selflessness, values she says are woven into the fabric of the Lady Vols program.
Having coached the Nigerian National Team, she described the experience as surreal and special, adding that representing her home continent on the sidelines was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime honor.
She also touched on the roster’s potential, praising the talent on hand and expressing confidence that the team can compete at a higher level with the right mindset.
Finally, Uzamere expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from her colleagues and staff, noting that the collaborative atmosphere will help the squad adopt a ‘screw loose’ mentality on the court.
Looking Ahead
With the new coaching staff in place, the Lady Vols are poised to sharpen their defensive identity while maintaining the offensive firepower that has defined recent seasons.
