After guiding the Commodores to a 27‑win campaign, Byington is determined to avoid the comfort of past achievements and to lay a foundation that can sustain long‑term growth.
Bringing Proven Experience to the Staff
The new assistant coaching trio brings a blend of SEC pedigree and recruiting acumen. Rodney Terry, who previously led Texas to the NCAA Tournament and served as an SEC Network analyst and New Orleans Pelicans scout, offers deep tournament experience and a strong network across the conference. Joel Justus, a longtime confidant of Byington, is celebrated for his elite recruiting skills and will serve as a strategic sounding board on offensive schemes. Chad Myers, the Director of Recruiting, combines an intimate knowledge of modern recruiting dynamics with personal history coaching Byington at Hargrave Military Academy, giving him a unique perspective on player development.

Byington emphasizes that the current staff represents the most experienced and recognizable group he has assembled since taking the Vanderbilt job. The coaching team will work alongside three returning players and three new staff members to elevate the roster beyond previous limits.
