A Czech Prospect in Ontario
The Brantford Bulldogs have announced the signing of Adam Němec, the 13th overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft, to an OHL Scholarship & Development Agreement. The move marks the latest chapter in a rapid rise that has seen the youngster dominate at every level of Czech junior hockey.
Born in Vsetín, Czechia, Němec first captained his hometown VHK Vsetin U15 side at just 14 years old. In the 2023‑24 season he recorded 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 16 games, followed by a 24‑goal campaign with the Vsetin U17 team the next year. His breakout continued in 2024‑25 when he tallied 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 43 games for Bílí Tygři Liberec’s U17 program, again leading his team in scoring during the playoffs.
International exposure arrived early as well. At 15 he earned a call‑up to the Czech U20 squad, and a year later he represented his country at the 2025 U17 World Hockey Challenge. The following summer he made his professional debut in the Czech Extraliga at just 16, contributing nine goals and seven assists in nine playoff games and helping his team advance deep into the postseason.
Leadership and Expectations
Spencer Hyman, the Bulldogs’ President of Hockey Operations & General Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “Adam brings legitimate NHL potential and a rare blend of skill and leadership for a player his age. We’re excited to see how he will shape the future of our club and continue the tradition of outstanding Czech players who have worn our colors.”
The organization also anticipates that Němec will spearhead Czechia’s entry for the 2026 Hlinka‑Gretzky Cup, adding a layer of national pride to his club responsibilities. His arrival joins a growing contingent of Czech internationals on the Bulldogs roster, reinforcing the team’s long‑standing connection to the country’s hockey development pipeline.
