Conference Honors Spotlight Wildcats
Senior right‑handed pitcher Garrett Hicks tied for fourth in the Big 12 with six saves, assuming the closer role after Tony Pluta missed the year due to elbow surgery. Hicks finished 3‑2 with a 3.94 ERA across 21 appearances, pitching 28.2 innings.
Redshirt freshman first baseman Tony Lira led the team at the plate with a .343 batting average, adding five home runs, 19 doubles and 25 RBI. His .929 OPS and 74 hits ranked fourth among UA freshmen since 2012, and he earned a unanimous spot on the All‑Freshman Team.
Redshirt freshman infielder Nate Novitske posted a .303 average, hit five homers and drove in 27 runs. He also demonstrated plate discipline with 30 walks against 29 strikeouts, contributing to a balanced offensive profile.
The conference also recognized players from other institutions, with Landon Hairston of Arizona State earning Player of the Year, West Virginia's Maxx Yehl named Pitcher of the Year, Baylor's Tyce Armstrong selected as Newcomer, Cincinnati's Enzo Infelise crowned Freshman of the Year, and Kansas' Dan Fitzgerald awarded Coach of the Year.
