Mark Fanning announced his resignation as head coach of St. Andrew's Episcopal baseball after 29 years of service, concluding a career that produced a 626‑324 record and two MHSAA championships in 2018 and 2024. The program also captured five South State titles during his era, and he was honored as MAC Coach of the Year in 2025.
Fanning’s departure comes as the Saints finished the 2026 season with a 24‑9 record, having eliminated Presbyterian Christian in the playoffs with the opponent’s only loss of that tournament. His long‑standing influence is evident in the program’s consistent competitiveness and community impact.
A new era begins
Josh Newell, who joined St. Andrew's Episcopal staff in 2024 and served as associate head coach during the previous season, has been promoted to head coach. Newell’s background includes a prior head‑coaching stint at Park Place Christian Academy, where he honed his reputation for calm demeanor and excellent communication skills.
Athletic director Jane Carter praised Newell’s leadership style, noting that his ability to connect with players and staff aligns with the program’s values. Carter expressed confidence that Newell will sustain the team’s winning culture while fostering growth among the next generation of athletes.
The upcoming season promises a fresh slate of challenges, but the foundation laid by Fanning provides a strong platform.
