Kansas baseball is shaping up for a strong 2027 campaign after a historic 2026 season that saw the Jayhawks make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. The team’s core will return with a mix of seasoned arms and potent bats, giving the program a chance to stay among the Big 12’s elite.
Four key contributors from last year’s squad have announced they will forgo signing and remain in Lawrence, a boost that could reshape the pitching rotation and the middle of the lineup.
Right‑hander Boede Rahe, who posted two saves during the Lawrence Regional sweep, is expected to move into a starting role now that Dominic Voegele has signed with the Baltimore Orioles. His transition could add depth to a rotation that already features experienced reliever Manning West, who posted a 3.89 ERA in 26 appearances last season.
Catcher Augusto Mungarrieta brings a .292 average, 17 home runs and 50 RBIs to the mix, while second baseman Cade Baldridge returns with a .320 batting mark and 43 RBIs despite a postseason injury. Both players provide the offensive punch the Jayhawks will rely on.
The returning group also includes pitchers Mason Cook and Riane Ritter, as well as center fielder Tyson Owens, who together form a versatile core that helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament. Their experience, combined with the fresh arms, should keep Kansas competitive in conference play.
