A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Staff
Auburn University announced this week that Nick Ammirati will join its baseball program as an assistant coach, filling the vacancy left by Gabe Gross.
Ammirati arrives after a distinguished tenure at the University of Georgia, where he helped orchestrate an offense that topped national rankings in home runs for two straight seasons and set program records for runs scored, RBI and total bases.
His impact extended beyond the diamond, guiding the Bulldogs to two trips to the College World Series in Omaha and contributing to three SEC championship titles. He also mentored nine hitters who were drafted in the top ten rounds of the MLB Draft since 2024.
Before his coaching career, Ammirati played catcher at Seton Hall University, Panola College and Mississippi State University, where he earned a reputation as a disciplined student‑athlete. His playing experience spans the 2012‑13 seasons at Mississippi State.
Auburn head coach Butch Thompson expressed enthusiasm about the reunion, noting the long‑standing mentorship between him and Ammirati. “I’m thrilled to bring Nick back into the fold,” Thompson said, adding that the new staff member is eager to contribute to the program’s growth.
The hiring is expected to bolster Auburn’s recruiting reach and reinforce its competitive edge in the SEC, as the team looks to build on recent successes and aim for its own Omaha appearances.
