A Hall of Fame Celebration in Kansas City
The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame will welcome former Villanova head coach Jay Wright into its 2026 class during a ceremony scheduled for October 22 in Kansas City, Missouri. The event will also honor coaches Tubby Smith and Ted Owens, as well as NBA veterans Danny Ainge, Glen Rice and Walt Hazzard, who each earned induction through a combination of on‑court achievements and contributions to the sport.
Wright spent two decades at the helm of the Wildcats, guiding the program to two NCAA championships in 2016 and 2018 and capturing 13 Big East regular‑season titles. His tenure, which began in 1994 after a stint at Hofstra, ended with his retirement in 2022, leaving behind a culture of discipline, teamwork and relentless preparation that defined the team’s identity.
A Legacy of Excellence
Beyond the trophies, Wright’s influence extended to player development and community outreach. Under his guidance, numerous athletes transitioned to successful professional careers, and his emphasis on academic excellence set a standard for the university’s basketball program.
The Hall of Fame itself was established in 2006 to recognize the sport’s most impactful figures. Selection is administered by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation, which convenes a Blue Ribbon Selection Committee to evaluate candidates based on career longevity, competitive success and broader contributions to basketball.
