A Legendary Coach Takes the Helm
Brian Idalski, a coach with 25 years of head‑coaching experience across NCAA Division I, the Premier Women’s Hockey League and international competition, has been appointed head coach of the Syracuse University women’s ice hockey program.
His career boasts more than 400 victories and a winning percentage that exceeds 62 percent, highlighted by the 2022‑23 USCHO National Coach of the Year award.
Idalski’s journey has taken him to programs such as the University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State, and the University of Wisconsin‑Stevens Point, as well as professional stints with the PWHL’s Vancouver Goldeneyes and the Zhenskaya Hockey League, where he steered Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays to a 77‑17 record and two regular‑season championships.
He also served as China’s head coach during the 2022 Beijing Olympics and previously led the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays to dominance, mentoring a roster that featured ten Olympians, 35 national‑team players and nine All‑Americans.
Cultivating Future Leaders
Beyond wins, Idalski has cultivated a culture of academic excellence, overseeing twelve Academic All‑America honorees and emphasizing the development of student‑athletes both on and off the ice.
His philosophy blends rigorous on‑ice training with a commitment to scholarly achievement, a combination that has produced not only championship‑contending teams but also scholars and community leaders.
