The gathering, now a cornerstone of FIBA’s Women in Basketball strategy, reflects two decades of progress toward greater visibility and participation for women in the sport.
Organized jointly by FIBA Europe and the Slovenian Basketball Federation, the summit has evolved from a modest regional meeting into a pan‑European platform. Since its inception, national federations have embraced the event, with the first edition featuring representatives from 25 countries. The 2026 edition will be the 19th summit, as the 2020 gathering was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Distinguished Guests and Hall of Fame Honors
The celebration welcomed high‑profile figures including FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa, FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak, and Hall of Fame inductee Natalia Hejkova. Their presence underscored the summit’s role as a conduit for leadership, mentorship and the sharing of best practices across the continent.
New Visual Identity Unveiled
During the anniversary ceremony, organizers revealed a fresh visual identity and logo designed to reflect the summit’s expanded mission. A specially produced video showcased testimonials from former participants, highlighting the personal and professional impact the event has had on coaches, referees and young players alike.
Since the summit’s resumption in 2021, the focus has shifted toward mentoring support for coaches and referees. This strategic pivot aims to strengthen the pipeline of qualified women in technical roles, ensuring sustainable development and deeper integration of female leadership throughout European basketball ecosystems.
Looking ahead, the 2026 edition promises to build on this momentum, offering new workshops, networking opportunities and a continued emphasis on elevating the status of women in basketball. The summit’s legacy, now firmly rooted in Postojna, serves as a model for future initiatives that seek to diversify and enrich the sport.
