Six decades ago, a modest soccer league sprouted on the fields of DeKalb County, marking the YMCA’s first foray into organized youth soccer in the United States. Inspired by the growing popularity of the sport and the example set by professional players, the initiative quickly became a blueprint for community‑based programs nationwide.
A Vision Born on the Field
Professional athletes and coaches, recognizing the untapped talent in local neighborhoods, partnered with the YMCA to design a curriculum that emphasized skill development, sportsmanship and inclusive participation.
