A Legendary Induction
Glen Rice, a standout forward from the University of Michigan, has been selected among six inductees for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, marking the third time a Wolverine has earned the honor after Cazzie Russell and John Beilein.
Rice’s collegiate résumé includes leading Michigan to its first NCAA national championship in 1989, where he was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player and helped the team set tournament records with 184 points and 75 field goals.
During his tenure at Michigan he amassed 2,442 points, the second‑most in school history, and earned consensus All‑American honors twice while capturing Big Ten Player of the Year as a senior.
The NBA draft saw the Miami Heat select Rice with the fourth overall pick in 1989, launching a 15‑year professional career in which he became a three‑time All‑Star and, notably, contributed to the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2000 championship.
His achievements have been recognized beyond the court, with his No. 41 jersey raised to the rafters at Crisler Center in 2005, and inductions into both the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (2007) and the University of Michigan Hall of Honor (2010).
The upcoming Hall of Fame ceremony will also welcome fellow basketball figures such as Jay Wright, Tubby Smith, Ted Owens, Danny Ainge, Walt Hazzard, Mike Boynton Jr., and others, underscoring the sport’s rich tapestry of talent.
