Bishop Guilfoyle Academy secured a convincing 57-39 victory over Altoona in the Blair Regional YMCA boys basketball championship, a game that unfolded at the Altoona Mirror Sports Complex on Tuesday night.
The Marauders surged ahead early, establishing a 12-7 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage in the second period before pulling their starters in the fourth.
Grant Okonak was the offensive catalyst, pouring in 26 points and steering the team with a blend of scoring and playmaking that kept the opposition off balance.
His brother Connor contributed 12 points, including three three‑point shots, while Tyler Lightner added six points and is expected to assume a larger role as the season progresses.
Coach Ryan Lestochi praised the squad’s cohesion and unselfish approach, noting that the depth of talent should produce multiple double‑figure scorers throughout the regular season.
Altoona’s coach Doug Pfeffer acknowledged the Marauders’ stifling defense and admitted that his team must work on consistency and confidence to compete at this level.
