A crisp Monday night in Hyannis turned into a tense showdown as the Y-D team faced off against the Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League. The game ended 5-4 in favor of the Hawks, marking the league’s lone Monday contest.
The Harbor Hawks jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on a handful of timely hits, while Y-D’s defense unraveled in the fifth inning, committing errors that swung momentum.
The turning point
In the eighth inning, a split-second call at first base triggered a double play that effectively sealed the loss for Y-D. Manager Scott Pickler later took responsibility for not pinch-hitting Reid Howard, a decision he described as complex because it would have left the squad without a designated hitter for the remainder of the game.
Y-D managed just two hits through the first six innings before a late rally in the seventh sparked hope, but the team could only muster a single run before the final out.
With five games remaining, Y-D clings to a two-point edge over Brewster in the race for the regular-season title. Assistant coach Craig Gianinno stressed the importance of staying connected as a team, urging his players to rally around each other in the final stretch.
