A Strategic Signing
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has been busy reshaping the roster ahead of the new season, announcing a series of moves that blend veteran savvy with fresh talent. The latest addition is defenseman Ronnie Attard, a Michigan native who has agreed to a one‑year, two‑way contract with the club.
Attard’s journey to the NHL began in the youth ranks of the Honeybaked AAA program and the USHL’s Tri‑City Storm, before he honed his skills at Western Michigan University, where he captained the Broncos. The Philadelphia Flyers selected him in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, and he made his NHL debut during the 2022‑23 season, appearing in 29 career games with two goals and four assists.
The Red Wings’ front office also secured forward Viktor Arvidsson, known for his offensive firepower, and added forward Keegan Kolesar to bring physical presence to the lineup. Goaltender Daniil Tarasov was signed to provide depth between the pipes, giving the team flexibility as the season progresses.
Depth in the Crease
With these acquisitions, Yzerman hopes to fortify a roster that has shown promise but still seeks consistency, aiming to compete fiercely in the Atlantic Division. The moves also reflect a broader strategy that emphasizes depth across all positions, from the blue line to the crease, ensuring the Red Wings can weather injuries and slumps.
Beyond the headline signings, the club has also retained depth players such as Chase Stillman, Cameron Butler, Wilmer Skoog, Jacob Bryson, and Ben Gleason, all of whom bring unique skill sets that complement the newly added talent.
