Mike Martin, the longtime architect of Brown University’s basketball resurgence, has agreed to join the coaching staff at the University of Michigan, where he will work under new head coach Mike Boynton Jr.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
During his 14‑year stint at Brown, Martin steered the Bears to their first 20‑win season in 2018‑19 and secured a historic postseason victory, cementing his status as the program’s winningest coach in over a century.
Boynton, who took the reins at Michigan earlier this year, highlighted Martin’s blend of strategic acumen, player development and recruiting savvy as a perfect fit for the program’s championship aspirations.
Martin expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting his excitement to contribute to a culture that values relentless competition and continuous improvement.
The addition marks the first of several staff reshuffles this summer, as Michigan still seeks to fill the vacancies left by departing assistants Justin Joyner and Drew Williamson.
