A Legendary Induction
Danny Ainge, the former BYU basketball standout, has been selected for the Naismith Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 class, a testament to a career that blended scoring brilliance with relentless competitiveness.
He will be joined by a distinguished group that includes Jay Wright, Tubby Smith, Ted Owens, Glen Rice and the late Walt Hazzard, each of whom left an indelible mark on the college game.
The induction ceremony will also honor Kevin Henderson, a key figure in the program’s history, and will recognize other basketball legends such as Isiah Thomas, Sam Bowie, Ralph Sampson, Julius Erving and AJ Dybantsa, underscoring the breadth of talent celebrated by the Hall.
Ainge’s collegiate résumé reads like a Hall of Fame ledger: he earned the John Wooden Award, was a consensus First Team All‑American, captured the WAC Player of the Year honor, and guided BYU to its only Elite Eight appearance in school history.
His name sits atop several program records, including 2,467 career points, 987 made field goals and a streak of 112 consecutive double‑figure scoring games, numbers that place him behind only Tyler Haws and Jimmer Fredette on the all‑time scoring list.
Beyond the statistics, Ainge’s influence stretches to the professional ranks, where his tenure with the Boston Celtics and contributions to the game’s culture continue to inspire new generations of players.
