Gabe Gross, a longtime fixture of Auburn University’s baseball program, announced that he will leave his position as associate head coach after nine seasons, marking the end of an era for the team’s staff.
A former Auburn player who earned a first‑round selection by the Toronto Blue Jays, Gross helped shape the program both on and off the field since joining Butch Thompson’s staff in 2018, rising to associate head coach before the 2024 season.
A Legacy of Achievement
During his tenure, the Tigers recorded six postseason berths, highlighted by four Super Regional appearances and two trips to the College World Series, while Gross mentored standout hitters such as Ike Irish and Sonny DiChiara.
In announcing his departure, Gross cited the increasing demands of collegiate athletics and the need to focus on his family as the primary factors behind his decision to step back from day‑to‑day coaching.
He will transition to a newly created role as special assistant for athletics engagement, a position designed to leverage his experience across the department’s broader strategic initiatives.
The move reflects a broader trend of experienced coaches shifting toward administrative capacities, ensuring continuity and mentorship within Auburn’s baseball program while exploring new avenues of contribution.
