Syracuse University’s basketball program is once again making headlines, this time for its aggressive pursuit of a coveted 2027 prospect from across the border.
Godson Okokoh, a 6‑foot‑8 forward born in Ottawa, Canada, has drawn the attention of the Orange after a standout season with Canada Elite in the Under Armour Association league.
The 2027 class standout has already amassed scholarship offers from a slew of power‑conference schools, including Arizona State, California, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Creighton, West Virginia and Southern California. In recent AAU circuit games he posted averages of 13.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists, shooting 40 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 59 percent from the free‑throw line.
Beyond Okokoh, the Orange coaching staff is also charting a path toward other top‑rated talents such as Isaiah Hamilton, King Gibson, RJ Moore, Nasir Anderson, Caleb Ourigou, Kager Knueppel, Markus Kerr and Munir Greig, all of whom are slated to enter the 2027 recruiting cycle.
A New Coaching Era
In March, former Orange guard Gerry McNamara was announced as the team’s next head coach, a move that many analysts believe will sharpen the program’s identity and bolster its recruiting clout.
McNamara’s ascent from beloved player to head coach adds a narrative of continuity, even as the roster rebuilds around fresh talent and a renewed emphasis on player development.
